ABOUT ME

Welcome to Danica Kotsopoulos Psychotherapy!
My name is Danica Kotsopoulos (she/her). I am a Registered Psychotherapist offering relational embodied Gestalt therapy with a trauma informed approach. I work in private practice in Toronto where I enjoy working with clients from diverse cultures, backgrounds, sexualities, ages and abilities. I offer sessions both online and in-person. I believe that your relationship with your therapist is the key to meaningful and healing therapy. Your first appointment is to check out whether you and I are good fit with no obligation to continue.
I look forward to meeting you!

"As a psychotherapist I don’t push for change, but work with you to gain a deeper understanding of yourself and your experience. I have found that in time, from this place of deep listening and acceptance, change takes place naturally and spontaneously.”

What is Gestalt Therapy?
Gestalt Therapy was developed by Fritz Perls, a psychoanalyst, in the 1950s. It aims to make the person "whole" or "complete" by developing self-awareness, overcoming incapacitating defences, releasing pent-up feelings and giving full range to the potential for growth. Gestalt Therapy resembles other humanistic approaches in its emphasis on the expressive and dynamic aspects of human beings. It focuses on the present moment - here and now. Clients are asked to experience things rather than imagine them, and to feel rather than think.
Skills you will develop as we work together include self awareness, how to cultivate boundaries, compassion towards self and others, acceptance of self and the ability to shift and change when you are ready to do so.

IS THERAPY COVERED UNDER MY BENEFITS?

WHAT IS YOUR CANCELLATION POLICY?
In order to maximize the effectiveness of therapy, clients should make attending sessions a priority and are encouraged to avoid canceling sessions except in the case of illness or emergencies. Session fees will be applied for appointments canceled less than 24 hours in advance. There is an understanding that unforeseen circumstances occur and in these particular situations waiving the fee will be considered.
HOW OFTEN WILL I NEED TO ATTEND THERAPY AND HOW LONG CAN I EXPECT TREATMENT TO LAST?
This can range greatly depending on your individual needs and treatment goals. It is typically recommended to attend therapy on a weekly basis and slowly reduce the frequency as you begin to progress in treatment. I will work with you to develop a flexible plan to meet your availability and budget.
WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT IN MY FIRST SESSION?
Your first session will be used to discuss what has led you to seek therapy, your therapy goals and develop a treatment plan that will work for you. I will take an intake assessment which will help me get to know you better. I will also review logistics including confidentiality, storing of personal information and the cancellation policy.
DO YOU PROVIDE CRISIS SERVICES?
